Wrinkle Relaxing Injections (Botox® and Bocouture®)

What exactly is this treatment?

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections, like Botox® and Bocouture®, are an effective solution for reducing the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. They work to block the electrical signals between the nerves and certain muscles in the face that create deep and pronounced facial wrinkles (like crow’s feet around the eyes, frown lines between the eyebrows, etc.), temporarily reducing their appearance.

Why should I have this treatment?

If you want to reduce the appearance of existing fine lines and wrinkles, whilst also working to prevent new lines from developing, Wrinkle Relaxing Injections could be an effective treatment for you. At Appearance Based Medicine Ltd, we strive to enhance natural beauty rather than to create a false, unnatural look, therefore we recognise that it is important to keep some movement and character in the face. As a result, thanks to the skill and experience of our Aesthetic Nurse Prescriber, Clare McLoughlin RGN INP, we carefully and expertly use Wrinkle Relaxing Injections to soften and smooth lines and wrinkles rather than ‘freeze’ the features, creating a fresh and youthful appearance.

As an experienced Independent Nurse Prescriber and advanced procedure aesthetic Nurse, Clare McLoughlin RGN INP has the knowledge and skill required to use Wrinkle Relaxing injections to treat:

  • Dynamic Facial Wrinkles
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • ‘Gummy’ smile
  • Facial slimming
  • Jaw clenching/teeth grinding
  • Nasal flaring

How do I know if this treatment is safe and right for me?

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections (such as Botox®) are prescription-only medications and can only be prescribed for use following a consultation with a medical professional – either a Doctor or a fully qualified Nurse Prescriber. At Appearance Based Medicine Ltd., Clare McLoughlin RGN INP will only prescribe Wrinkle Relaxing Injection Treatments following a detailed one-to-one consultation with a patient, enabling her to accurately assess whether Wrinkle Relaxing Injections are an appropriate treatment option given a patient’s unique medical history, skin condition and expectations.

During your consultation, you will be given comprehensive information about the procedure, potential side effects, and any pre- and post-treatment advice. You will also be given the time to decide whether or not, given the information you have received, you would like to proceed with any recommended procedure.

In terms of the side effects of Wrinkle Relaxing Injections, there is the risk of some slight bruising around the injection sites, as well as the possibility (in 1-10% of all patients undergoing this treatment) of patients experiencing mild headaches, mild muscle activity disorders, or a temporary feeling of heaviness in the upper face in the days immediately following a treatment. A list of further but significantly less common side effects can be found in the FAQ’s section of my website.

How does this treatment work?

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections, such as Botox® or Bocouture®, are a type of Botulinum Toxin Type A – a prescription only medication that is primarily used in cosmetic treatments (when deemed appropriate) to temporarily reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by expression and muscle movement. It has been licensed for use to safely treat a variety of medical as well as cosmetic procedures.

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections are administered using a very fine disposable needle and generally, a procedure usually takes around 30 minutes to carry out. You will be advised not to lie down, strenuously exercise or massage the treatment area for 4 hours’ post-treatment in order to maximise efficacy, and Clare McLoughlin RGN INP will ensure that you have comprehensive post-treatment advice and support in the hours and days following your procedure. Typically, the results from Wrinkle Relaxing Injections last between 3 and 6 months.

What else can Wrinkle Relaxing Injections be used for?

Botox® or Bocouture® wrinkle relaxing injections can be successfully used to reduce excessive sweating/Hyperhidrosis.
