When it comes to treating thread veins, I’ve got a lot of experience – I’m a member of the British Association of Sclerotherapists and have been practicing Microsclerotherapy (which involves injecting the problem blood vessels with a solution that makes the walls of the vein ‘stick together’ and close, before being absorbed by the body) for a number of years to reduce the appearance of unsightly thread veins. I also wrote an article on the topic for the Aesthetics Journal (which you can find here, if you are interested! https://www.ab-med.co.uk/2015/07/aesthetic-journal-article-on-microsclerotherapy/ ).
The most effective treatment for thread and reticular veins to the legs is Microsclerotherapy, however, due to the complexities of the blood supply to the face, the risks of Microsclerotherapy to the face outweigh the benefits – particularly because we have a new and proven (and less invasive) treatment specifically designed to target visible facial thread veins. This treatment is Shortwave Diathermy.
What is Shortwave Diathermy? It’s a quick and simple ‘lunch-break procedure’ that harnesses a high frequency electrical current (delivered via shortwave through a micro-needle) to generate heat in the visible capillaries on the face, neck and chest. This causes the blood vessel to seal itself, then gradually fade and be absorbed by the body, just like a bruise.
Shortwave Diathermy is a low risk, non-invasive treatment, as a tiny needle is used to deliver the treatment without penetrating the skin. Some results will be visible immediately, but the final results will be seen 4-6 weeks’ post-treatment, and more than one treatment maybe required depending on the condition of your skin and size of the area being treated. As with all of my non-surgical aesthetic treatments, though the risk of side-effects, etc. is significantly reduced thanks to my extensive training and comprehensive one-to-one pre-treatment consultation, this treatment isn’t suitable for everyone. If you suffer from heart, vascular or blood clotting disorders or are pregnant, this treatment may not be a suitable option for you, and an alternative non-surgical treatment may be recommended.
