What are the benefits of Profhilo® treatments?

Profhilo® is an injectable skin bio-remodelling treatment that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. This significantly improves tissue quality. After a Profhilo® treatment, you can expect to see an increased firmness and improved elasticity in a particular area of the skin, with these effects lasting up to six months.

Profhilo® contains stabilised hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance that helps your skin to retain moisture more effectively. It’s also used for effective skin remodelling and rejuvenation.

Why should I have Profhilo® treatment?

As we age and the production of the ‘scaffolding’ proteins – collagen and elastin – in our skin starts to reduce. Many people find that their skin becomes lax and wrinkles appear more readily. The overall texture of our skin is also negatively affected by the physical ageing process, with many people complaining that their skin appears dull, dry and lacklustre as they get older.

Profhilo® is designed to tackle these problems through effective skin bio-remodelling and has won a whole host of awards. It’s also one of the most concentrated formulations of hyaluronic acid on the market.

How does Profhilo® treatment work?

Profhilo® is an injectable treatment that specifically targets a 2cm radius of the injection site. The treatment is gradually absorbed into this specific area. For example, if your face is being treated we’ll use five injection points on each side of your face to ensure optimal distribution and absorption of the slow-release hyaluronic acid formula. Once the absorption process has started, Profhilo® stimulates the production of four types of collagen and elastin. It’s this that results in the significant improvement of your tissue quality and skin tone.

Profhilo® Body

Profhilo® was originally designed to target sagging skin on the face. However, practitioners soon found that it could be used to rectify this problem across all areas of the body. Profhilo® Body was specifically developed in the wake of this discovery. This allows clinicians to solve the problem of skin laxity in places such as the upper arms and abdomen.

Featuring a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, Profhilo® Body is administered in two sessions, spaced one month apart. When this solution is injected into key areas, hydration is restored and laxity corrected by way of promoting tissue regeneration and the production of collagen and elastin. Patients will then notice a visible improvement in skin laxity after approximately four months.

Profhilo® Body’s minimally invasive nature reduces the possibility of swelling or bruising post-treatment. Its results are supplemented with Profhilo® Figura Body Patches immediately after the procedure and the application of Profhilo® Figura Body Cream as part of a dedicated aftercare routine. These products ensure moisture retention and continued skin elasticity and firmness following treatment.

What happens during the procedure?

Following your tele-consultation, and if you decide to proceed with a Profhilo® treatment, you’ll be invited to a 60-minute appointment (which includes a complimentary Dermalux™ LED treatment) at our state-of-the-art clinic. Profhilo® injections only take 15 minutes to carry out and post-procedure you’ll receive a Dermalux LED Light Therapy treatment. This helps to improve the efficacy of the Profhilo® and improve skin healing times.

During the initial procedure, the Profhilo® solution will be injected into the treatment area with the use of a very fine disposable needle. Profhilo® diffuses into the tissue after the injection and you’ll see improved hydration and texture after three to five days. Although, some older patients may not see a tightening of the skin until after the second treatment. Profhilo® is recommended as a course of two treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Optimal results can be seen two months after your second treatment has been administered, with the positive effects of the treatment lasting up to six months.

How do I know if this treatment is safe and right for me?

At Appearance Based Medicine, Clare McLoughlin RGN INP will only carry out a non-surgical aesthetic procedure following a detailed one-to-one tele-consultation with you. This consultation will enable her to accurately assess whether a treatment is appropriate given your unique medical history, skin condition and expectations.

During your consultation, you’ll be given detailed information about the procedure, its potential side effects and any pre- and post-treatment advice. You’ll also have time to decide whether or not, given the information, you would like to proceed with the treatment recommended.

As with all non-surgical aesthetic treatments, there is a small risk of a patient experiencing side effects following a Profhilo® treatment. Although this is significantly reduced by ensuring that we ask detailed questions about any current and/or past health issues you may have. Some patients have seen minor bruising and mild swelling at the injection sites, but this generally subsides quickly. Profhilo® is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or people who are allergic to hyaluronic acid.

Is there any downtime after a treatment?

The downtime following a Profhilo® treatment is minimal and you should be able to return to your normal ‘light’ daily activities immediately after your procedure. However, we recommend that you avoid physical strain and sports on the first day after the treatment, and don’t have a sauna or steamy bath for the first few days. Taking steps to avoid the sun and UV light is also highly recommended for the first few days’ post-treatment.

If the area that has been treated is your neck, this will be very noticeable. In this case, it is advisable to bring a light scarf with you so you can cover this up before leaving the clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Although most dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, Profhilo is not a dermal filler. The molecule chains of both high and low molecular weight non-animal hyaluronic acid are thermally stabilised and fused together creating a unique patented hybrid complex, to form a gel which spreads and becomes integrated into the skin.
Profhilo is injected into the skin in a specific pattern depending on the area to be treated. Two treatments are required, 4 weeks apart. The first to stimulate, the second to ‘boost’ and ensure longevity. In some cases and depending on your initial skin quality, you may benefit from a third treatment, typically 8 weeks from your second treatment.

Profhilo is used to treat skin laxity and improve skin quality. It can be used to treat skin laxity and skin quality, almost anywhere, common indications include;
