**If you have particular skin concerns that you’d like to address, you can learn more about the causes and the variety of non-surgical aesthetic treatment options available to you on this page.**

Our Patients’ Priorities

In “Our Patients’ Priorities” we capture the most common concerns and objectives of our patients and the treatments that most suit your particular issues. The section is packed with a multitude of treatment options, sensible advice and self-help tips.

Whatever your concerns, we would encourage you to book a no-obligation consultation with Clare so that she can advise you on the best course of action for your particular concerns, objectives and budget.

Our aim is to provide exceptional quality care and a wide range of treatment options to suit all patients and to produce subtle but significant results so that you can look your best.

Skin ageing during the menopause

Concerns about skin often increase considerably immediately before, during and after the menopause. Previous regimes seem to lose their impact as the skin changes. This is absolutely natural as the change in hormones can have significant impact on the quality and elasticity of the skin. Less oestrogen leaves you prone to thinning, sagging and wrinkling. The body stops making as much collagen, you lose fat under your skin and dryness increases.

Most people are not worried about ageing per se. Everyone knows that this is an inevitable part of life. But patients often tell us that they don’t look quite like themselves anymore. Sometimes the specific problem but is hard to pinpoint but typical complaints are that the changes to their face have left them looking tired, saggy, angry or sad.

These problems are predominantly caused by the skin quality deteriorating and the face losing some of its structure. Hence many of our treatments are geared towards addressing these concerns.

Below are some treatments suggestions for these typical problems. More detail on all of our treatments can be found under the “Treatments” section of the website.

Skin Quality and Rejuvenation

If you are new to aesthetic treatments, this is a great place to start. The majority of our treatments are either non-invasive or minimally invasive and require little or no downtime.

Dermalux LED Light Therapy – This award-winning treatment is fabulous for improving complexion and overall skin health.

PROFHILO® – Profhilo makes use of patented technologies that are particularly engineered for skin rejuvenation. Rather than filling your wrinkles, it stimulates natural production of elastin and collagen in your body for skin renewal. The treatment procedure ensures slow release of Hyaluronic acid in the body.

Viscoderm Hydrobooster – Particularly indicated for those pesky fine wrinkles in the dynamic areas of the face such as the forehead, around the eyes and around the mouth, or indeed for the entire face, our newest product is Viscoderm Hydrobooster. This fantastic skin rejuvenation treatment is an ULTRAPURE stabilised hyaluronic acid solution and offers the dual benefits of both DEEP HYDRATION and Biostimulation to improve elasticity, radiance and smoothness of your skin, and a unique HYDROSTRETCH action on superficial wrinkles, all in a precise and natural way.

Fire and Ice Medical Facial – Our Fire & Ice Medical Facial is a ‘no downtime’ treatment. A unique combination of ‘facial’ and ‘peel’, it works to resurface the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and helps it to regain its luxuriant glow.

Medical Microdermabrasion – As we age, not only does skin cell production begin to reduce, but so does the skin’s ability to effectively shed these old skin cells. As a result, the build up of dead skin cells can leave skin looking tired and lacklustre. Medical Microdermabrasion helps to clear away the top layer of old skin to reveal the younger, fresher looking skin beneath, as well as stimulating the fibroblasts deep within the skin to produce new collagen and elastin.

Facial Contouring

As our skin ages, our face can lose some of its youthful definition and volume which can lead to reduced elasticity, sagging and wrinkles. We offer a number of treatments to address these concerns. Here are a few of our most popular.

8-point face lift – If you are looking for firmer, “lifted” skin with a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, the 8-point face lift could be for you. The 8 points targeted in this treatment include the cheeks (to add volume), nasolabial folds (the lines between our nose and mouth that tend to deepen as we age), mouth corners, pre-jowl area and jawline. Having said that, this a bespoke treatment and hence areas are chosen based on your specific needs. If you would like to read more, this is a fantastic article from the Telegraph.

Wrinkle-relaxing Injections – If you want to delay or disguise the visible signs of ageing, wrinkle-relaxing injections are a great way to achieve this. This treatment can be adjusted very precisely to achieve your chosen look. The ideal result can soften and smooth lines, lift brows but leaves some natural expression and movement to avoid the frozen face look.

Dermal Fillers – Dermal fillers are used to replace volume in areas where, as we age and the production of collagen and elastin in our body reduces, the skin has lost its fullness and elasticity – areas like the cheeks, as well as the lips.  Dermal Fillers can also help to soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles, making them a popular and effective way of treating nose to mouth grooves, lipstick lines etc., without affecting movement in the face. We have a number of different filler options depending on your needs.

Looking your best for a special occasion

Many of our patients are prompted to visit us before a special event such as a wedding, anniversary or big birthday. All of the treatments already mentioned could be suitable but we will suggest a tailored programme for you during your initial consultation. Both “Dermalux” and “Fire and Ice” are both ideal to provide an instant boost for brighter-looking skin and are perfect for the party season.

Our patients tend to have two other concerns when it comes to looking their best for a particularly special occasion:

Unsightly Leg Veins – Up to half of all adults suffer from Telangiectasia, or ‘spider veins’; blood vessels that appear red, purple or blue and are clearly visible through the skin. If you are one of the 50% your veins are affecting your self-confidence; if you feel self-conscious wearing swimwear, shorts or skirts or are reluctant to leave the house – even in the heat of the summer – without wearing stockings or trousers, worry not!  They can be treated effectively in a number of cases through Microsclerotherapy or Shortwave Diathermy, both treatments offered by Appearance Based Medicine.

Excessive sweating or antiperspirant stains on your best dress? Whether you suffer from excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) or are just frustrated with unsightly stains (both from sweat and antiperspirant products) on your best clothes, Botulinum Toxin could be the right treatment for you. It works to temporarily block the nerve endings in your skin that respond to the chemical message your body sends to turn sweat “on”. Results can last between 6 months and a year.

Self Help

Cleansing – As you age, your skin gets drier so make sure that you use a creamy formula, rather than a gel or foam cleanser, so as not to further dry out your skin.

Hydrate – Your skin gets drier after menopause as your oil glands are less active so you may need to change your face cream to a richer more hydrating formula. We recommend Profhilo. Click here to buy from the website.

Oily skin – Whilst it’s true that many of us will suffer from drying of the skin as we age, some people suddenly develop acne, having never suffered before. As our levels of oestrogen and progesterone drop, our testosterone, having been previously masked by these hormones, can stimulate our sebaceous glands to produce thicker sebum which can lead to acne breakouts. Wash your face twice a day with a gentle non-drying cleanser. Avoid harsh products and vigorous scrubbing as mature skin it can be easily irritated or damaged. DO NOT squeeze or pick spots as skin is more fragile during and after the menopause and more prone to scarring. We recommend iS Clinical Cleansing Complex.

Use an SPF cream – Sun damage starts early and increases your risk of skin cancer and causes wrinkles. However, there is evidence that, after menopause, your skin may have less natural protection and is more susceptible to damage so a SPF cream becomes all the more important. Make sure you choose a cream that has both UVA and UVB protection. Click here for our recommendations.

Age Spots – Age spots on the hands, chest and face can become more noticeable during menopause. You can help to prevent them by using a good SPF cream. Exfoliating and skin-lightening products can help to fade exiting spots. We recommend iS Clinical ECLIPSE SPF 50+ SUNSCREEN.

Hands – As we age our hands lose fat, collagen and moisture which can lead to wrinkles and more prominent veins. This loss or volume can also result in a more bony and transparent appearance. To minimise these issues, use moisturiser often and wear gloves while doing your housework to avoid further dehydration.

Healthy Diet – As your oestrogen levels decrease so does your collagen. There is increasing evidence that eating food containing antioxidants can help make your skin stronger from the inside out. Try to eat a mix of brightly-coloured fruit and vegetables and include as may colours of the rainbow as you can!
