Halloween makeup removal hints and tips
Do you have a Halloween fancy dress party this weekend that calls for lashings of ‘false-lash’ effect mascara and heavy smoky eye shadow (a sexy witch-esque kind of look), or half an inch of green face paint and some painted-on stitches (if you are going for a slightly less sexy ‘Frankenstein’s Monster’ kind of look)?
If so, you’re probably going to need a little help when it comes to removing your disguise, else you may end up having a bit of a surprise when you glance in the mirror the-morning-after-the-night-before and it looks as though you have been replaced, whilst you were sleeping, by a member of Kiss. Trust me, it can be quite scary – and I love a bit of ‘Rock and Roll all Nite’!
So, once you have returned from trick or treating, follow our basic skincare guidelines to ensure you wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed this Sunday. Remember – it’s always best to try and remove makeup before you go to bed, as heavy make-up and face paints can clog your pores, leading to breakouts of spots, and mascara-caked eyelashes can become brittle and dry if you don’t remove your eye makeup overnight.
So here are my top make-up removal tips:
- Choose an appropriate cleanser for your skin type – some can be quite harsh and dry out your skin, so you may find a sensitive brand works better as a cleanser for you.
- After cleansing, if there is still some stubborn makeup clinging to your skin, try applying cold cream on the affected area for a few minutes. Once it has had the opportunity to soak in, try wiping a cleanser soaked cotton pad over the area again – any residual makeup should come away quite easily!
- Use a dedicated eye makeup remover to clear product from the delicate eye area. Cleanse gently, using a circular motion, and don’t pull at the skin – the eyes are so easily irritated, and will end up looking puffy and tired if you vigorously rub them to remove heavy makeup.
- Skin looking dull and lifeless? Why not try exfoliating once or twice a week? Exfoliating more often can cause skin to become irritated, but a light exfoliating scrub used a couple of times a week can really help to reveal the glowing skin beneath!
- Finish your skincare routine by massaging moisturiser into your face: apply gentle pressure and rub your chosen moisturiser into your skin in small circular motions. Not only is this nice and relaxing, but also helps to boost circulation – a win-win situation!
So enjoy your Halloween Party this weekend, and go to town with the Face-Paints! Just be sure to Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise before the witching hour, or you might turn into a pumpkin! And if you are looking at your makeup removal lotions and potions now and are a little concerned they aren’t up to the job of removing realistic ghoul makeup, why not pop on over to the Appearance Based Medicine shop and take a look at some of the innovative and revolutionary skincare products we have in stock – I can recommend them all!!
Happy Halloween!
