Do you sometimes catch yourself looking in the mirror and being taken by surprise?
Talking to a patient the other day, she experienced that very phenomenon.
“You know that it’s you but things are not quite where you remember them. Everything’s a little bit saggier than it used to be, my bags are more pronounced and, oh my god, why do I look so tired?”
If you can relate to this, you are not alone. As we age and the production of the ‘scaffolding’ proteins of collagen and elastin within our skin starts to reduce, many people find that skin becomes lax and wrinkles appear more visible. The overall texture of our skin is also negatively affected by the physical ageing process, with many people complaining that their skin appears dull, dry and lacklustre.
Would you like to roll back the years but want to avoid looking like the bride of Wildenstein?
Many women would love to turn back the clock but are fearful that things could go wrong or that they will end up looking unnatural.
These emotions are completely understandable and very common amongst my patients. That is why I begin any patient relationship with a comprehensive consultation to fully understand what you are hoping to achieve and to get a sense of any concerns and fears you might have so that I can recommend treatments that take account of both.
My aim is to delight every single one of my clients while providing patient-focused aesthetic services centred on safety and quality. I encourage patients to bring photographs of themselves from 5 and 10 years ago so that I can achieve a result that is natural and sustainable.
Here’s what some of our clients have to say….
“The transformation was immediate and I have been treated by Clare ever since, more than happy with the way she keeps my face looking fresh but not ‘processed’. Her insistence that her work is about looking natural yet the best it can be reinforces my conviction that she has my best interests at heart.”
“I don’t feel that I have changed, I just look smoother and softer in my face. So people tell me I look great. Nobody would know that I have had such a treatment, which is just what I wanted.”
“Clare’s results always exceed expectations, and I’m always amazed at how great she makes me look! “

Keen to avoid injections?
Treatments do not have to be invasive to be effective. For those of you who are reluctant to have any injectables here are a couple fantastic options to revitalise your skin….
Chemical Skin Peel
As we get older our skin’s ability to effectively shed old skin cells reduces and the build-up of dead skin cells can leave the skin looking dull and lacklustre. Sun exposure can make the problem worse. Chemical Peels help to clear away to clear away the top layer of old skin to reveal the younger fresher looking skin beneath. They also stimulate the fibroblasts (cells responsible for generating connective tissue and allowing the skin to recover from damage) deep within the skin to produce new collagen and elastin, which together form the mesh that gives the skin structure, strength and elasticity.
Some people are reluctant to try chemical peels due to the expected downtime after treatment but not all peels have long recovery times. Our Fire & Ice Facial is a ‘no downtime’ treatment. A unique combination of ‘facial’ and ‘peel’, it works to resurface the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and helps it to regain its luxuriant glow.
LED Light Therapy
LED Light Therapy has become increasingly popular as a skin rejuvenation treatment, not least because it is completely non-invasive. Just one treatment your skin can revive a tired and dull complexion.
At Appearance Based Medicine we use the Multi Award winning Dermalux® LED Phototherapy. It uses 3 different light-waves (Red, Near Infra-Red and Blue Light), each of which has very specific skin healing properties. For sun damage, the Red and Near Infra-Red light is particularly effective:
**LED Red Light helps to increase hydration and stimulate circulation in the skin.
**LED Near Infra-Red is the most deeply absorbed wavelength and works effectively with Red Light to help promote the production of collagen, elastin and other growth factors in the skin to help counteract the visible signs of ageing and skin damage.

Want to limit your downtime?
A common concern for many patients is the downtime that may be associated with various treatments, particularly bruising. As well as those treatments already mentioned, Profhilo® has proved highly popular, both for its results but also because any marks at the injection sites are usually completely gone by the next day.
Profhilo is a big step forward in combatting many of the signs of aging so we were delighted to add it to our list of treatments at Appearance Based Medicine. Since its introduction, it has become one of our most popular treatments. In fact, it is my personal favourite and has become an integral part of my skin regime.
What is Profhilo?
Profhilo has been designed to tackle the signs of aging through effective skin bio-remodelling and was awarded the Aesthetics Award for Product Innovation of the Year 2016. It has also caught the attention of the media with Tatler, Grazia and Good Housekeeping reporting on its benefits.
In The Telegraph in 2017, Alice Hart Davis described Profhilo as “one of the quickest and most effective cosmetic fixes I have ever tried.”

Profhilo is an injectable treatment that specifically targets a 2cm radius of the injection site, with the product being gradually absorbed into this specific area. As a result, if the face is being treated, there are just 5 injection points on each side of the face to ensure optimal distribution and absorption of the slow release Hyaluronic Acid formula.
Once the absorption process has started, Profhilo stimulates the production of 4 different types of collagen and elastin. It is this stimulation that results in significant improvement of tissue quality and skin tone, as well as improved overall texture, hydration and radiance. Profhilo also helps to increase the firmness and elasticity of the skin in the treatment area.
