Fire & Ice Facial from iS Clinical

What exactly is this treatment?

iS Clinical’s Fire & Ice Facial bridges the gap between mild facials and invasive peels and is designed to resurface the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and deep cleansing blocked pores. It is suitable for all skin types, though Clare McLoughlin RGN INP will evaluate your skin’s condition in a one-to-one consultation prior to any treatment being carried out at Appearance Based Medicine Ltd.

What does the Fire & Ice Facial treatment do?

As we get older, our skin’s ability to effectively shed old skin cells reduces and the build-up of dead sk
in cells can leave the skin looking dull and lacklustre. Chemical Peels, such as iS Clinical’s Fire & Ice Medical Facial, help to clear away the top layer of old skin to reveal the younger, fresher looking skin beneath, as well as stimulating the fibroblasts deep within the skin to produce new collagen and elastin.

How do I know if this treatment is safe and right for me?

fire-and-ice-facialBefore you undergo the Fire and Ice Medical Facial, as with all of the other treatments offered by Appearance Based Medicine Ltd., we require you to have a detailed one-to-one consultation with our Aesthetic Nurse Prescriber, Clare McLoughlin RGN INP. This consultation allows us to collate a detailed medical history for every patient and ensure that you are a suitable candidate for any non-surgical cosmetic procedure that you are interested in. This consultation also allows us to explain the procedure in detail and give you full information about any small risks or side effects associated with the treatment. The Fire and Ice Medical Facial treatment, for example, can cause feelings of heat and tingling in the treated areas, as well as some short-term redness of the skin – both side-effects that tend to be short-lived and resolve themselves in the days immediately following a treatment.

How does this treatment work?

iS Clinical’s Fire and Ice Medical Facial involves the application (and subsequent removal) of 2 different facial masks. The ‘Fire’ part of the facial is an intensive resurfacing treatment clinically formulated with 18% un-buffered glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, malic acid, retinol, vitamin B3 and potent antioxidants, including green tea extracts. The treatment can be used on the face, neck and décolletage.

The second step in the facial involves the application of a rejuvenating mask (the ‘Ice’ part of the facial) and is a cool, soothing and intensively hydrating treatment containing Hyaluronic acid, Aloe Vera gel, Japanese green tea extract, liquorice extract, grape seed extract and rosemary extract. This pampering part of the facial cools skin after the initial “peel” and leaves the skin glowing.

Skin will typically feel tight and firm after treatment and patients may notice that their skin is slightly red following the procedure (though this should subside in approximately 4-6 hours). It is likely you will feel heat and tingling whilst the ‘Fire’ mask is in contact with the skin. This can increase after the peel is removed, however after neutralization and the subsequent application of the Rejuvenating ‘Ice’ Masque, the skin calms almost entirely. The Fire & Ice is a ‘no downtime’ treatment. This means you shouldn’t experience any significant shedding, prolonged redness, irritation or inflammation post-treatment.

The Fire and Ice Medical Facial from iS Clinical is an effective ‘stand alone’ treatment, but here at Appearance Based Medicine Ltd. we have found great success combining this treatment with Dermalux LED Phototherapy.  When these treatments are combined, patients often see a more dramatic improvement in skin texture and appearance.  This is due to the fact that the LED Light from the Dermalux machine can more efficiently penetrate the skin following a Fire and Ice Medical Facial, as the top layer of old skin cells has been ‘cleared away’, revealing the new skin below that the Dermalux LED Light Therapy procedure can directly, and more effectively, target.
